Athletics
Madonna students are among the over 3,000 athletes in Nebraska who participate in the Special Olympics. In addition to the physical benefits of competing in sports, our student athletes also learn valuable lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship and responsibility. Madonna athletes participate in basketball, track and field, swimming and bowling at several area competitions throughout the year. If they qualify at the area level in a sport, athletes are invited to participate at the state competition. One of our student athletes has qualified for the National Special Olympics in July in Ames, Iowa. Jessica is participating in the 400-meter walk and the shot put. Eventually, Madonna School hopes to expand the number events its student athletes compete in during the Special Olympics.
