Strategic Plan

Madonna School is a private school founded on the Christian principles of the value, worth and dignity of every individual. Our mission is to educate students with cognitive and other developmental disabilities from infancy to independence.

Madonna School opened in 1960 to help special needs children in the Omaha community. It gives them a personalized, hands-on environment to develop academic, vocational and life skills and to establish self-confidence. Through their participation in student council, campus ministry, Special Olympics and the many other activities Madonna offers, our students develop strong bonds of friendship. In large school communities, opportunities for students with special needs are sometimes limited.

Some facts about Madonna School:

- Nebraska state-approved special education school
- Teachers certified in special education
- 10:1 student-teacher ratio provides individual attention to maximize learning
- Students come from all faiths and backgrounds
- 35 percent of students qualify for Federal free and reduced lunch program
- 75 percent of families receive tuition assistance from our donors
- 95 percent of the operating budget depends on community support

Highlights of our Strategic Plan 2007-2010 include the enhancement and growth of our Life Skills/Transition Program:

- Personalization of the program to meet each student's ability and maximize their potential
- Challenging our students to take their Madonna education and become functioning members of our community

A complement to this program is the Madonna Workshop that offers additional vocational training for adults with special needs.

Our Strategic Plan also calls for the organization of a summer school program that will:

- Assist the students in the retention of content material
- Offer the opportunities for the development of sensory skills
- Provide life and leisure activities
